choices

When jogging on the streets of Buenos Aires this morning, I saw a street juggler, who entertained the car drivers for small change. It was about 90 degrees Farenheit ( 30 Celsius) and he was barefoot walking on hot street and sidewalks. It felt really hot.

I don’t know anything about this guy. In one way I admire him for trying to earn some money. On the other side I wish he could use his time in a better way. I don’t know, maybe he has family, maybe he does go to school to get better life. I will never know.

Since it is a Thanksgiving weekend in the United States, while I was looking at the street juggler, I had these thoughts of deep gratitude and I felt genuinely thankful for the good life and opportunities we have in good, ol’ US (despite all the problems).

I don’t understand why the world is the way it is. I probably will never understand the why behind the workings of this world we live in. But this video only confirms my observation and what this blog is all about: Having goals is our only chance to have some control in this thing called life.

I want to end my post with the last line from Desiderata written by Max Ehrmann in 1927: “With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams; it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy”.

Derek

PS: I don’t carry money with me while jogging…

Answer: Here is the answer I like. It’s neither. What determines what will you do with your life is the choices you make. Here is something scary and exciting at the same time: If you test what has just been said you will change your actions in an instant. You will become a different person.
Act: Stop whatever you are doing at this moment. Ready? Do something simple right now, it has to be something you have never done before. OK, do something else (with the same condition)-you should have never done it before, if you’ve done it before, find something else-do it. Play this exercise often. This simple exercise alone can change your life. In fact change is automatically built in this exercise. Go from simple to more difficult actions. Have fun. Reinvent yourself. Do previously unbelievable.
