Reading a newspaper during sex

You want to have a nice time on this earth?

There is one thing that will help you to do just that.

It’s called learning.

Learning from books and learning from doing. Both are valuable and complement each other.

I just can’t imagine my life without reading, I read all the fricking time with reckless abandon.

I read in the toilet and on the way to the a toilet.

I read before I go to sleep and first thing in the morning. I read paper books, kindle books, and blogs. In fact I sometimes have to make myself stop reading to eat.

I don’t understand people who don’t read.

I read mostly to learn. So it’s a targeted reading. I will unlikely read Hunger Games, because what will that book teach me?

I’m not against pop culture books, but I will leave that to… others due to my general lack of inclination towards herd activities (no offense to anybody, I did that to get more comments:)

Back to learning.

Learning via books and/or doing is fun. One of the greatest pleasures in life. My ex-girlfriend proved that. She once read  a newspaper during our intimate moment (I did this one for comments too;)

OK. Learning should go together with action and creating your own stuff. I don’t want to be viewed as a geek or all words no action type of guy.

But in order for me to act intelligently I’ve got to learn.

Recently I’ve learned a lot of CSS code which you can see on my blog. Hopefully it looks good in Internet Explorer. Let me know if it doesn’t. But I really hope you are not using IE.

What have you learned recently? Do you also read in the toilet?

  1. Nce title!

Reading is foundational for me. It always has been. My earliest memories are summers in the library. Of course, I lived a block away so it was easy. As a kid, it’s easy to be active and get exercise, play sports, be with friends. Or. At least, in my childhood it was. But nothing was the beauty and escape that the library offered.

Still gets me to this day.

  2. Hi David,
I also used to go to a library as a child and a teenager in a small town in Poland. I read a lot of world literature but my favs were always American novels. I liked Hemingway a lot, but my absolutely best novel was From Here To Eternity by James Jones. Hundred Years of Solitude was amazing. Good, worry-free young, dreamy years, what can I say.
Now I don’t read novels but maybe I should start again.

  3. i got a Kindle for Christmas and I did not leave my house for a week. I had to use it with the power cord plugged in because I could not put it down long enough to charge it. I think I spent about $300 in one week on books. It is like crack

    • Hi Jojo,
I’ve been using my iPad and or iPod the same way, buying a book is soooo easy these days, but at the same I read more. Oh, so you are one of those people responsible for Amazon’s recent, tremendous spike in profits;) I’m in that group too.
It is like crack, I agree, but many things in life are, like a paycheck for example.
      Cheers. Have a great day.

  4. And I read in the bathtub. With the Kindle, I’ll probably electrocute myself.

I also listen to Audible when I’m driving.

    • I will try to invent a waterless bathtub this week, especially for you.
I have never tried Audible, I have an older car, no easy way to plug an iPod.
I might invent an iPad plug this week, so I can be just like you;)
